Stuttering when using "Simultaneous output"

Reported by: quintesse Owned by: lennart
Milestone: Component: module-combine-*
Keywords: Cc: ngoonee@…

Description

Using pulseaudio 0.9.21 on Fedora 13 (although it happend on earlier versions as well) I get severe stuttering when using Simultaneous Output (local analog and HDMI over ATI gfx card) with certain applications (games and chromium flash plugin for example).

Switching to any other output fixes the stuttering.

The strange thing is that running the Volume Control application fixes the problem as well! When I close it the problem returns.

I too have noticed this, but only with heavy-CPU usage apps. As a non-coder, my uninformed opinion is that the simultaneous output plugin is not running at the same priority level as the rest of pulse.

Examples of apps - Starcraft II in wine (older games run fine) and VLC playing simultaneously to bluetooth and internal audio card (used to have a problem, but I think the VLC folks decreased resource load recently, works fine right now).
