default-channel-map in daemon.conf doesnt work

Reported by: vimr Owned by: lennart
Milestone: 1.0 Component: daemon
Keywords: Cc: mkbosmans@…

Description

hello,

I have to remap the channels because of wrong mapping. So I found the item "default-channel-map" in the daemon.conf file, but unfortunately the changes were not applied. So I'm not really able to use my 5.1 sound system :-(

I'm using ubuntu 10.04 with "libpulse 0.9.21-63-gd3efa-dirty"

SImply use a tool like gneom-volume-control and change the profile in the "hardware" tab.

Also, please report ubuntu bugs to launchpad, don't go upstream right-away:

and default-channel-map is just the *default* channel map, for cases where none was configured before.

Bug still present in 0.9.22 (on Gentoo)

The fact that there's a workaround in Gnome doesn't make it any less of a bug.

As far as I see the solution should be to either: 1) Fix the code 2) Remove the option from the configuration file and supporting docs and programs

What Lennart was trying to explain is that changing the default channelmap does not automatically make your 5.1 soundcard work in surround mode, it is thus not true that default-channel-map in daemon.conf doesn't work, it just controls something different than what you expected.

You really want to change the profile of the card. This can be done in several ways: gnome-volume-control, pavucontrol, pactl or directly in /etc/pulse/default.pa. So the solution Lennart was suggesting is not a workaround, but one of the ways to configure pulseaudio to do the thing you want.

Please tell if this solves your problem. Otherwise I'll close this ticket in a couple of weeks.

My understanding for quickly reading "man pulse-daemon.conf" would be that the "default-channel-map" would be used by any module that has the capacity to take a "channel_map" argument but isn't given one. I do believe that's how it works for "default-sample-rate".

If this isn't the case, then the documentation should probably be clarified.

Can you be a little clearer about what problem exactly you're facing? Are you changing the default-channel-map value and finding that the channel mapping does not change?
