Strange volume levels like 434%

Reported by: howl Owned by: lennart

Description

This could be a conflict with the new volume application in gnome that relies fully in pulseaudio instead on alsa mixers.

When using balance and fading controls it have strange behavior, I now that this should go to gnome bugzilla, but, I'm issuing here because the volume can achieve really 400% with the corresponding very big distortion and perhaps could damage the hardware. So pulseaudio should prevent to attain this very high volume levels.

Is possible to see this also with the mic volume, if we set to the max with gnome volume the mic can be set to 150%.

This is a feature, not a bug.

Volumes > 100% are implemented using digital amplification, and is a much requested feature.

Sorry about this, but one question about it, how can be set volumes >100% with pavucontrol?

Changed 3 years ago by lennart

pavucontrol artifically limits the range to 100%. g-v-c can do 150%. If you go the command line tools you can get to whatever level you want.
