volume normalization

Description

Hi,

(Unfortunately) Sometimes when listening to a recording which uses a high dynamic range of loudness I have to turn the volume up for this. I leave the 'normal volume' a bit lower so I can use the headroom then.

Unfortunately when a new application with typically low dynamic range produces a sound afterwards, it uses the now higher output volume which I increased for the specific recording before. This results in a very loud output of the new application.

Some kind of 'overdrive' slider or better an optional default volume level setting for new applications which overrides the currently set output level would be nice for such situations.

Best regards,

Sladi

But shouldn't you have changed the stream instead of the device volume in the first place?

But yes, doing some form of compression when mixing or amplifying digitally would certainly make sense and has been on our todo list for quite some time.

Sorry, I didn't realize that changing the device volume directly was different from letting it change with a stream which was Flat Volume at work. :) I change the device volume now and everything is fine!
