Reported by: sbmiller Owned by: lennart
Milestone: Component: daemon
Keywords: user server default audio Cc:

Description

Logging in as root: event sounds OK, PA manager server description has correct default audio device. Logging in as ordinary user: no event sounds. PA manager server description shows wrong default audio device. All attempts to correct this have failed. No other audio problems, Skype works OK. FYI: had to remove PA alsa plugins to hear startup sound. Still, no audio problems except as noted on this ticket.

To be honest, this bug report looks more like something to ask the packagers on your distro. At least at first.

You don't say how you start pulseaudio or what desktop (e.g. gnome) you use. If you are not hearing startup sounds, you are probably not initialising pulseaudio early enough in the logon procedure. You should really make sure pulse gets started before e.g. ESD or Arts (ESD should defo not be used but you can run Arts on top of pulse).

The user may have their own config that sets a different device - check the ~/.pulse folder.

As I say I'd consider asking your distro's packager about the logon issues etc.

You're not supposed to run PA as root user.

You can change the default audio device by right clicking on a device in pavucontrol.

Closing as invalid.
